scheduled climbs and safaris We do not accompany unless you have a group of 12 or larger. Upon landing at Kilimanjaro Int. airport in Tanzania you will be collected by your host and remain with them until they deliver you to the airport after your hike and/or safari. You will always have someone in charge that speaks english while you are engaged in any activity on the itinerary.
EXAMPLE ITINERARY: The Machame route is probably the most scenic route up Kilimanjaro. All your equipment and supplies are portered and a cook prepares all your meals. Where accommodation on the Marangu route is in huts, the Machame route offers strictly tents. This makes Machame (also referred to as the "Whiskey route" compared to the Marangu referred by the locals as the "Coca Cola route') better suited to the slightly more adventurous hiker, however rewarding them with a scenic splendor not seen on the Marangu route. From late afternoon sunsets at Shira, to the misty revelations of Kibo at the great Barranco Wall, the Machame route offers the adventurous hiker a stunning scenic "slide show" over 6 days. The Machame route is normally completed in a minimum of 6 days. There is an added benefit to this, as you are afforded the most valuable commodity on the mountain - acclimatization. The Machame route takes you high to Lava Tower (4630m) on the third day and brings you down by nearly 700m for an overnight at Barranco camp (3950m). This is the secret to successful acclimatization. Recommended: For an extra $175.00 per person taking a seventh day on the Machame makes the event much more enjoyable. It breaks up the long day between the Barranco camp and the the Barafu camp by stopping over in the Karanga valley. This also helps tremendously with your acclimatization. Following your summit hike you can take a safari in some of the planets most famous animal preserves; The Serengeti, Ngorongoro and Lake Manyara. We can customize an itinerary for you.
